WE is a community-led news organization that aims to spark community engagement, reinvigorate citizen journalism, and get one of America’s great cities back on the right track.  Through a combination of community-produced podcasts, YouTube shows, magazine issues, data reports, and Town Hall forums, hundreds of community members research and highlight important topics that are time-consuming and fiscally de-prioritized by mainstream media.

Of special note are stories that highlight underserved, underrepresented, or unheard city residents — as well as stories that highlight quality of life issues in specific neighborhoods, districts, or communities.  WE also features long-form interviews, data-intensive reporting based on primary research, and investigative pieces that are not currently available in San Francisco’s mainstream media landscape.  The result is groundbreaking citizen journalism that is of the people, by the people, and for the people.

What WE Believe

WE embraces citizen journalism and fosters news coverage in line with seven key beliefs:

1.

WE believe that the people are a city’s biggest asset. To improve itself, we must build a foundation of transparency, action, and constant dialogue between the government and different communities.

2.

WE believe in the power of citizen journalism — the idea that our community itself can play an active role in collecting, reporting, analyzing, and disseminating news.

3.

WE believe in the principle of data-driven reporting, including not only analyzing publicly available data but also sourcing new data directly from the people.

4.

WE believe that government accountability is a primary blocker of The City’s full recovery and that it is the role of community members, armed with the power of journalism, to hold leaders accountable.

5.

WE believe that San Francisco's innovative and open-minded people hold the key to its future, and WE News is the platform for productive conversations with leaders and other citizens.

6.

WE believe that those with differing opinions on specific issues can unite for the greater good and find common ground together.

7.

WE believe that if we seize this moment San Francisco's best days are yet to come. Let's highlight the will of the people and drive action NOW.
